Symptoms of cholangitis may include fever, jaundice, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
Other types of biliary-tract infections include cholecystitis, which is an infection of the gallbladder, and ascending cholangitis, which is an infection that starts in the bile ducts and spreads to the liver. These infections can also cause similar symptoms, including fever, abdominal pain, and nausea.
Treatment for biliary-tract infections typically involves antibiotics to kill the bacteria causing the infection. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to drain the infected bile and remove any blockages in the biliary system. People with biliary-tract infections may also need to be hospitalized for observation and intravenous antibiotic therapy.
